About Where Mamas Can Breathe

Our Mission

Where Mamas Can Breathe was created to reconnect Black women and mothers with real care, care that honors vitality, listens deeply, and sees the whole person. We know that the healthcare system was not built with Black women in mind, and too often, it has caused harm instead of healing. WMCB exists as a counter-practice: a curated space where care is grounded in awareness, compassion, and integrity. Our mission is simple and sacred: to guide Black women toward providers who understand the systems that have drained our vitality, and who are committed to practicing in ways that restore it. While we center Black mothers, we welcome anyone who resonates with a model of care that is humane, culturally aware, and deeply respectful.

Our Evolution

We began with the idea of building a directory. But as we listened and learned what Black women truly need, we recognized the importance of intentionally assessing who is a fit for this space. WMCB has evolved into a curated community, shaped to uplift providers who practice with awareness, compassion, and integrity.

For Providers

We are not a directory. We are a curated collective of practitioners who offer care rooted in humanity, not harm.

If you are a provider who:

  • practices with awareness of historical and present-day inequities,
  • honors the lived experiences of Black women,
  • and is committed to care that supports vitality rather than depleting it—

we invite you to apply to join our provider community.

As a member of this collective, you'll be able to:

  • connect with clients actively seeking aligned care,
  • share your knowledge and services within a supportive ecosystem,
  • and stand alongside others committed to reshaping the landscape of maternal health.

Our Story

Cortney Beasley

Founder | Psychologist, Mother, Meditation Instructor

After giving birth three months prematurely and spending nearly as long in the NICU, Cortney witnessed firsthand how much support mothers truly need, and how often they are expected to navigate life-altering experiences with insufficient care, information, and compassion. WMCB emerged from this understanding: a desire to create spaces where mothers are met with dignity, presence, and respect.
